The Georgian period was considered to be elegant and polite. A new type of society had emerged in Britain; a more free, diverse and enlightened society.
1.5 Hours
The Georges may not have been the most exciting of Kings but it was a lively time, and much was achieved in their reigns.
The now world famous site of Sadler's Wells had, however, a less salubrious in the past which we explore further on this guided walk.
On this guided walk we take you back to the days when the surrounding area had a raucous reputation and see how it transformed from a place to be avoided at all costs to a most desirable postcode. We explore Georgian North Clerkenwell discovering tales of radicals and clowns, we will see see great Georgian engineering feats from engineering to town planning, in an area where Georgians came to play and be entertained.

"On Sunday 07/01/2024 I went on the Georgian London Walk guided by Hazel. Found her easily at the meeting point as she was clearly holding a sign. The walk was excellent, I had a personal interest as I used to work in Islington but had never explored this part of the borough. We were taken to great some interesting areas, including the banks of the canal. Hazel was a great guide, she spoke clearly and we were encouraged to ask questions and interact (which we did). We learned so many interesting facts, and I certainly have a lot more knowledge of Georgian architecture than I had before! It was the first walk I had done with this company and was so impressed that I booked another walk when I got home. Great fun!"

"This was a lovely walk around Islington, learning about that area's Georgian history. Hazel was an excellent guide, whose knowledge is extensive, and who delivers the info in a clear and engaging way. Thoroughly enjoyable."

"My first guided tour was a veritable treat around Georgian Islington with the lovely Hazel who was as sunny as the day which was glorious. It was an interesting fact finding mission around areas of my childhood. So interesting in fact that I went back the following day to have another walk around her points of interest and to explore the architecture along the Regents Canal in further detail!"

"Great tour of Islington and Angel (off the main busy roads) by Hazel - she was great at engaging everyone on the tour and sharing her expert knowledge. Leant all about the Georgian ways of life, architecture, businesses and New River and Sadler Wells theatre. Highlights for me were the easily missed "Peelers'" graffiti and the Islington tunnel which the Regents canal travels down. Very informative!"
