If you’ve heard about amazing Snowdonia scrambles like Tryfan, Moel Siabod, Crib Goch or Bristly Ridge but have been too nervous to tackle them alone, fear no more! Join our small group adventures with expert mountain guides who’ll introduce you to some of the best scrambling Snowdonia has to offer and transform you from hillwalker to scrambler!
You’ll spend two days with our qualified and experienced mountain guides learning the skills to tackle Grade I scrambles safely. You’ll explore movement skills, have discussions about risk levels, look at popular guide books and learn how to choose the best scrambling route for your confidence level.
An optional one-day extension is available for those ready to really push themselves to take on the infamous Crib Goch ridge to the summit of Snowdon.
Our courses are friendly and informal and are designed to help boost confidence in newcomers to the mountain environment.
Public courses take place throughout the year or if there’s three or more of you in your party you can pick your own date. Book online using the live availability checker or contact us to find out more.
Please meet your instructor outside the Moel Siabod Cafe in Capel Curig.
Thanks for your booking. The Intro to Scrambling course is a great way to experience your first mountain scrambling adventures.
This email contains some important information so please read it thoroughly and get in touch if there’s anything you’re not sure about.
Where do we need to meet?
Please meet your instructor Simon at the Moel Siabod Cafe in Capel Curig.
Parking is available at the cafe. Following our briefing, we will drive on to a local scrambling venue.
What time should we be there?
The course will start at 9am on both days. Please aim to arrive a little earlier to give you time to get ready. We usually finish before 5pm allowing time for lunch on the go. Day two will be a different location a short drive away but we'll discuss that during day one.
What do we need to bring with us?
You'll need outdoor kit for two days in the mountains whatever the weather! Remember to bring enough food and drink with you to last both days.
There’s a full kit list below. Please have a look at the weather before setting off and dress accordingly. Better to have an extra fleece and woolly hat in your bag just in case. Remember we’ll be outdoors both days in all weathers so be sure to have the right gear. If it’s looking wet then keeping spares clothes to change into in your car is also a good idea.
Is there a book I could buy that will tell me everything I need to know about climbing my first mountain?
What a great question. Yes there is! And it's written by me :) Visit https://www.howtoclimbamountain.uk to find out more and get your signed copy.
Can I extend the course another day?
Yes you can! We normally run a Snowdon via Crib Goch adventure the Friday following our Intro to Scrambling courses. This is a perfect opportunity for an extra day's more 'advanced' scrambling. Find out more and book online at https://www.mountainxperience.uk/activities/snowdon-via-crib-goch/
What do we do if something goes wrong on the day?
If you’re running late or get lost or need to stop to use the toilet on your way, don’t worry. Please call/WhatsApp Simon on 01248 614120 to keep him updated.
Do we need to let you know about any medical issues?
Yes please. If there's something you think your guide should be aware of please get in touch or have a quiet word on the day.
What if we still have a question?
Please get in touch and ask and I’ll happily help. You can email me at hello@mountainxperience.uk or call/WhatsApp me on 01248 614120.
